Why DaringDebs?

Deb (short for Deborah) was a prophet in the Bible. Read her story in the Old Testament in the book of Judges Chapters 4 & 5. Deborah means "a Bee" - I personally agree her attitude was very much that of a queen Bee! Names in the bible have a lot to do with the character; bees are remarkable, wise, self sufficient, intellectual and important to the human race as well as the animal kingdom- Fascinating facts about bees. Deborah's story takes place in a time when Israel (God's people) is governed by judges, who were regional/military leaders. The book of Judges happens after Joshua brings Israel into the promised land. Joshua instructs Israel to abide in obedience by following God's commands and remembering their covenant with the most High God. The book narrates how Israel fails to do so MISERABLY. When Israel moves into the promised land they need to carry the Canaanites out to avoid their immoral and sinful life, which commonly included children sacrifices to their gods. Deborah is wife to Lappidoth. Wife? Back in this era wife meant; stay at home mom, submissive, not allowed to have a voice. Deborah was assertive, brave, a leader and one of Israel's judge, who remained obedient to God. Deborah is instructed by God to send Barak, a commander in Israel's army, to gather up 10K men into battle the Canaanites and to defeat commander Sisera. The book of Judges Ch 4:8 tells us Barak punks out and tells Deborah, "If you will go with me then I will go", really Barak? YES really! Deborah of course being the warrior that she is accepts the challenge, but prophecy comes to Barak from Deb in Judges Ch 4:9, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the trip you take will not be for your glory, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hands of a woman", and surely Judges Ch 4:21 narrates that Sisera after going into the tent of Jael (a woman Sisera thought he could trust) gets killed when Jael takes a tent pin and hammers it through Sisera's temple... HA!
All the work done by women!

The Road to Success

What do you define as success? Stop. Think for a moment. Be honest with yourself... What will deliver satisfaction to your hunger for success? What is it you're looking for in the endless quest? Tranquility. You think if only you can acquire enough worldly goods, enough recognition, enough eminence, you will be free, there'll be nothing more to worry about, and instead you become a bigger and bigger slave to how you think others are judging you. ~ Tom Wolfe, A MAN IN FULL As a young kid my dad was concerned that once I would have a job that I would become lured by money. Dad was right. Once I had some money I experienced independence. It was new, felt like a grown up. I liked it. This new freedom jaded my judgement.  I moved out at 18 years old and when I was on my own, I remember a conversation where a friend expressed satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment and success in his college degree and his career. He had just gotten married and his wife was a stay at hom...

Perfect LOVE

Romans 8:38-39  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, [ a ]  neither the present nor the future,  nor any powers,   neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God  that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. I'm in a season where I have found myself worried about being in God's perfect will. I have been concerned about a number of things. I was serving in ministry, spending a lot of time with the Lord, getting deep into the word and feeling the peace of God.  Things have changed a bit these past 4 weeks. New job, new friends, longer commutes and a shift in my schedule.  Prayer time has declined. I had to step back from serving for a bit and these changes have affected my moods.  This had left me feeling a lot of guilt.  The guilt was dictating swings in my mood. This is a perfect situation where, if I am moody enough to lash out, then I later feel ...

Wholeness In Singleness

What is wrong with me?  The stigma of being single has created fear in the generation we live in today. Society tags singleness as a state of incompleteness. If you are single and in your late 20's or past age 30 people will ask unfiltered questions such as, " Are you dating anybody ", or, " What are you waiting for to get married ?", and the truth of the matter is that, if you are not sure of who you are, your mind will spiral into negative thoughts that can quickly create a distorted idea of being single. Being single doesn't necessarily mean being lonely. Being single is an amazing opportunity to get to know yourself. In this season you can understand inner battles that have created layers of insecurities. Like an onion, you begin to peel layers of ideas that through failed relationships were created in your mind.  Perhaps in the past you excused abusive ways and behaviors to feel accepted and possibly it even made you insatiably eager to " earn ...
